Mangotsfield United….0 Bristol Manor Farm…2
The struggle for points continues and against a strong & experienced Bristol Manor Farm, we were always up against it. That has been the theme all season. Most of our opponents have been experienced at this level, and many of our squad are youngsters. We were without Louis Britton, but good luck to him at Bristol City, and with the exception of a free kick which clattered the cross bar, we rarely looked like scoring.
In the opening stages, a through ball found Dan Demkiv and, with his back to goal, he tried to flick the ball over keeper Ben John’s head, but he was alert to the danger. Ashley Kington replied for ‘The Farm and his half volley dipped beyond the far post due to the breezy conditions. The visitors took the lead in the 23rd minute when a low ball from the left into the crowded penalty area, was firmly struck low into the botton right corner by Jordan Rogers. 0-1.
Tyrone Tucker-Dixon crossed well and found Lewis Ellington, but he sliced his effort wide. ‘The Farm were dominating the midfield with their physical presence over their lightweight hosts.
Seven minutes into the second-half, Mangos came close with a free-kick. A superbly struck kick from 20 yards by Tom Hillman, came back off the crossbar and within three minutes, the visitors extended their lead. A ball over the top was back-headed by Clayton Fortune, hoping to find his keeper, but it fell a little short, leaving Owen Howe to nip around him and clip the ball over the advancing keeper, Joe Perry. 0-2.
Moments later, a strong header by Ashley Kington clipped the Mangotsfield crossbar. The hosts worked hard to get themselves back in the game, but it was just not their day. Tom Hillman saw his free-kick sail over the top and a fierce volley from Matty Tanner was not too far away. Both Isaac Kelly & Owura Edwards saw their volleys blocked as the visitors soaked up the pressure.
