This hard-earned point, may well prove vital at the end of the campaign, and I am sure that most supporters will probably agree that, despite a lack of goals, it was one of the best performances of the season. Everyone worked very hard for each other, and whilst one or two players may get an extra mention, this point was earned due to all fourteen players working their socks off!!
Evesham are a strong side, and look a good bet for a play-off place, but our defence worked solidly to keep the Simpson boys and Steve Davies under control, and things looked to have taken a turn for the worse when keeper Kieran Hodges did not appear for the second-half. He had been injured in the 36th minute after an airborne tussle with Cory Simpson and suffered a dislocated shoulder.
Manager Ollie Price had to orchestrate his instructions from the back of the stand, due to a touchline ban, and it was quickly agreed that Colin Mugoya-Tabingwa would don the orange jersey.
In the early stages, Evesham looked dangerous. After just 5 minutes, Cory Simpson curled a 20 yard free-kick over the wall, but Kieran Hodges did well to catch it cleanly just below the bar. Kane Simpson had a free-kick charged down and Mangos defender Kevin Davies did well to block a goalbound effort on the line.
The hosts had their chances. Luke Spokes and Dan Demkiv had shots on target and Louis Britton should have done better with a tamely-hit drive which keeper Andrew Hannah collected easily.
With half-time approaching, James Ollis showed his pace down the left side and his delivered cross reached Dan Demkiv, who turned smartly and tested Hannah with a low drive.
Then came the injury to Kieran Hodges.
After the break, ‘The Robins’ tried to put as much pressure on Mugoya-Tabingwa as possible, but the hosts’ defence covered him well, and his handling looked fairly safe. Louis Britton tested Hannah from distance, with the ex-Mangos keeper tipping his effort over the top.
The final whistle was a relief for the hosts, but they fully deserved their point and showed Manager Ollie Price that they have the termperament to deal with a difficult end to the season.
