Bristol Manor Farm…1 Mangotsfield United…2
Report by Dave Smale
The Mangos started brightly, with two very early attacks, the 2nd of which saw Clayton Fortune’s shot saved by Farm keeper Ben John on 2 minutes. Moments later, ex-Mango Aron Robbins had the ball in our net in Farm’s first attack, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Adam Kelly then tried a cheeky lob at goal from inside our half on 8 minutes, when he saw Ben John off his line, but unfortunately, the ball went wide of goal. The home side began to come into the game more, but found their way through our defence blocked by some resolute defending. The Mangos responded with our pacey new signing Dan Demkiv firing over the bar on 16 minutes, whilst at the other end, Troy Simpson was put through down the left side, but his shot across goal eventually went out for a throw-in on the far side. However, and somewhat against the run of play, our hosts went ahead on 24 minutes when speedy winger Lewis Bamford latched on to a long ball down the right side & fired home from 15 yards into the far corner.
The Farm almost bagged a 2nd goal one minute later, but Jordan Metters saw his shot saved by Kieran Hodges, and 3 minutes later, Hodges smothered the ball after a left wing cross had been blocked on our own goal line. But we survived that little spell of pressure & pushed forwards ourselves, with Sam Hill seeing his shot blocked.
On 33 minutes, however, we were level with a low 20 yard drive by Matty Tanner, from the left side into the bottom right corner. As the rest of the half wore on, we looked fairly comfortable, with Colin Mugoya-Tabingwa dominant in defence, despite a Jordan Metters shot going across the goal. At the other end, the lively Miles John was causing problems in the home defence & he almost put us ahead on 39 minutes when a shot-come-cross hit the top of the home bar & went out for a goal-kick.

Both sides continued to test each other out as the 2nd period got under way. Kieran Hodges saved well from a long range effort by Jordan Metters (50) & then Dan Demkiv worked his way into the home box, only to see his shot go narrowly wide of the far post. However, our hosts were shaken when we took the lead on 57 minutes, thanks to Adam Kelly’s 15 yard shot going in off the crossbar, after a good team move which saw Clayton Fortune move a long ball out to the right, which was kept in by Dan Demkiv, who duly fed in Adam Kelly to fire home.
Not surprisingly, that stung the Farm into action & there was a scare on 63 minutes when a right wing cross flew across our goal area, but everyone missed it. The match could have been wrapped up just 3 minute later, though, when Clayton Fortune was put through the middle in a one-on-one situation, but his shot agonisingly went just wide of the gaping net. The Farm responded with Lloyd Mills heading a free kick over the bar, but as the rest of the half wore on, various substitutions helped to run the clock down & apart from one long range strike saved by Kieran Hodges, we always looked comfortable in defence & our hosts rarely troubled us. Indeed, we had another late chance to have wrapped things up when Ben John fumbled a shot, with two Mango forwards running in for the loose ball, but a home defender just managed to hook the ball away.
FT: Bristol Manor Farm 1, Mangotsfield United 2
Overall, a huge, huge win for us and thoroughly deserved in the end. A good solid team performance throughout the side with everyone putting in a cracking shift.
