Bluebells in control
Monday 27th August 2018, The Evo-Stik League South – Division One South Attendance 252
Mangotsfield United…1 Yate Town…3
The Bluebells came to Cossham Street with an unbeaten record from their league & cup programme, and boasting of not having conceded. That lasted just 13 minutes, when Michael Bryant planted a close-range header past Bluebells keeper Lewis Thomas. 1-0
So, after a rather quiet opening, the game had come to life, and it did not take Yate too long to respond. Just two minutes later, they were awarded a free-kick, 25 yards from goal.
As he has shown in the past, Nick Peare can be quite deadly in these situations and he curled the ball way beyond keeper Josh Dempsey, making a return to Cossham Street after a four year break. 1-1.
Josh Dempsey then did well to fingertip a strong drive from Jack Twyman over the top, but as The Bluebells stepped up their pressure, he was unlucky in preventing them from going ahead. He got down to push away a low drive from Sam Kamara, but the ball fell kindly to the lurking Ross Langworthy, who swept the ball home in the 28th minute. 1-2.
Four minutes later, Yate were firmly in control. Dempsey stopped a low shot from Josh Ford with his legs, but from a corner, Josh Ford headed goalwards, and Charlie Hitchings flicked home a header from close-range. 1-3.
Mangotsfield faced an uphill battle to salvage the game. The industrious Kyle Tooze and Kye Simpson battled hard but The Bluebells defence, well marshalled by Ford & Hitchings, and backed up by Mayson Evans and Elliott Keightly, kept a tight rein on them.
Kyle Tooze tested Lewis Thomas, with a strong volley from the right-hand side of the area, but he did well to palm it away. Tooze then tried his luck from a free-kick situation, but the ball passed harmlessly wide of the far post.
Yate seemed quite prepared just to protect their lead but Olly Mehew saw his fierce volley superbly saved by Dempsey, and when Mehew did get the ball in the net, he was ruled offside.
The introduction of Omar Simpson and Louis Britton, by Manager Ollie Price, failed to have any impact and Yate now currently head the division, with Mangotsfield without a win in four games, at the other end of the table.
