Too much for ten-man 'Field'

Mangotsfield United…1 North Leigh…3
The dismissal of Alex Monks, just after the interval, was the turning point of this game, as the sides had been all square with little between them. Despite their lowly position in the table. ‘The Millers’, as always, proved formidable opposition. Mangotsfield started brightly enough with Alex Monks trying his luck from distance, but putting the ball well over the top.
A deep cross from North Leigh’s Jordan Lymn narrowly missed the far post, before Mangotsfield’s Kye Simpson dragged the ball around keeper Ross Grimshaw, but hit the side netting. Kye was involved in another slick move as he flicked a through ball on for Michael Bryant, but Grimshaw was out quickly to thwart the danger.
Grimshaw was then alert to hold a strong header from defender Ed Weeks, before Alex Monks broke up a possible Leigh attack in midfield to send Kane away, but it came to nothing. In the 36th minute, the hosts took the lead as Jake Gardner’s through ball was lifted over keeper Grimshaw by Adam Kelly. (1-0).
However, Mangotsfield’s bad habit of conceding quickly, after taking a lead, saw ‘The Millers’ level within a minute. George Seacole cut in from the left side and placed the ball inside the near post. (1-1). Just before the break, North Leigh had a great chance to go ahead. Liam Carroll supplied the cross and Josh Thomas headed over from close-range, when he looked certain to score.
Within two minutes of the re-start, everything changed for the hosts. Alex Monks, who had been a big influence in midfield, committed a rash ‘studs-up’ challenge and was red-carded. Before Mangotsfield had a real chance to re-organise, they were trailing as a slick move down the right, saw a low cross into the middle and Declan Sheppard finished off a simple-looking move. (1-2).
‘The Field’ battled well and were always in with a chance of saving the game. They enjoyed a good share of possession, but the resilient Leigh rearguard were able to use their numerical advantage well. Kye Simpson went close, but only found the side-netting. With the game into the last ten minutes, George Lloyd floated a ball to the far post where Michael Bryant saw his effort saved by Grimshaw, and from the rebound, Bryant was unable to connect for a second chance.
With the hosts pushing forward, they were caught out by a speedy North Leigh break, and a low left-footed drive by Josh Thomas sealed the game for the visitors. (1-3).
Mangotsfield deserved more from the game for their efforts, but this time they found the disadvantage of being a man short, just a little too much.
