Mangotsfield United...1 Bideford AFC...1
Tuesday 31st October 2017, The Evo-Stik League South – West Division. Attendance 101
Mangotsfield United….1 Bideford AFC….1
The Robins arrived at Cossham Street, as the ‘in form’ team of the division, and their second-half performance showed why that is the case. Unbeaten on their travels this season, they found a Mangotsfield side searching for a much-needed win to pull themselves away from the lower regions of the table.
The early action was quick & pacey and Bideford’s Ben Seymour caught the eye, following his hat-trick on the weekend, but it was the hosts who took a 15th minute lead. George Lloyd’s first competitive goal for the club, after spending most of last season injured, came from a low-drilled shot from 25 yards, taking a deflection and beating keeper Steve Oliver on his right-hand post. 1-0.
Kane Simpson was prominent, as his strength stretched ‘The Robins’ defence on several occasions, whilst at the other end, Seymour looked dangerous, as he put one effort over the top and tested George Dorrington with a low drive, which the keeper handled well.
Bideford’s Louie Roberts’ effort was wayward as he snatched at a half-chance from 25 yards, but it was clear that the hosts needed that second goal.
Lloyd delivered a telling through ball for Simpson to run on to but Oliver was quick off his line to thwart the opportunity.
Bideford’s substitutes, Ben Wood & Dan Western, injected some pace into the game as ‘The Robins’ looked to be taking advantage of a tiring Mangotsfield, and the leveller came after 64 minutes. A ball over the top dropped between the defence and the advancing Dorrington, but Seymour beat him to it and lifted it over his head. 1-1.
Mangotsfield’s Charlie Maddison & Jordan Williams were brought on, and the hosts forced a couple of corners, with Simpson snatching at a chance that dropped to him.
In the closing stages Western & Seymour went close, and the ‘Robins’ briefly went down to ten men as Liam Gregory was stretchered off, although it was thought that the injury was not serious.
Despite not getting the win they wanted, this was an industrious display from a hard-working Mangotsfield side, following on from their previous well-earned point at Evesham.
