Match report by Ron Loftus.
On the last Saturday before Christmas and in the season of goodwill, Mangotsfield made the gift of three points to our hosts on a dull, damp day at the Raymond McEnhill Stadium. Despite an encouraging start to the game, where we matched our opponents during the first 10 to 15 minutes, it was soon patently obvious that the promotion-chasing Wiltshire side possessed far too much pace and skill for us to handle. Just 17 minutes in a foul by Josh Nelmes just inside the area allowed recent recruit from Tiverton,Owen Howe to open the scoring from the penalty spot
(0 – 1). Just 8 minutes later and experienced full-back Claudio Herbert, drove home a low 25 yard shot into the bottom right hand corner with Dorrington getting a hand to the ball but being unable to stop it entering the net (0 – 2). It was Dorrington however who prevented Salisbury going three-up on 42 minutes when Daniel Young seemed certain to score only for the young ‘Field keeper to pull off an excellent diving save low to his right.
On the hour mark the game was virtually decided when the Mangotsfield defence failed to deal with a long ball played up to Howe who was able to lay it off to the supporting Stuart Green who was able to pick his spot into the bottom right-hand corner with Dorrington static on his line (0 – 3). Thereafter ,the usual rash of substitutions saw the game peter out although Mangotsfield did create a couple of late chances when firstly Kane Simpson blasted a powerful shot straight at Searle in the home goal after a scramble in the box on 80 minutes and then Kailan Gould got to the bye-line twice only for his low crosses into the 6-yard box failing to find a Mangotsfield player.A late straight red card for substitute Charlie Maddison for use of the elbow did little to lift the mood! All-in–all a disappointing performance albeit against a strong-looking home side who will surely push for promotion come the end of April.
