Mangotsfield United...2 Kidlington...5
Kidlington go nap!
Match report by Bob Smale
Saturday 25th November 2017, The Evo-Stik League South – West Division. Attendance 131
Mangotsfield United….2 Kidlington….5
It was just as if the midweek win at Paulton had not happened, as Kidlington’s incisive football put ‘The Field’ to the sword, as they fell apart in the second half. In truth, the scoreline could well have been heavier! The hosts started well with Ed Weeks powering home a header from a corner after 14 minutes. 1-0.
Even by then Lance Williams had tested keeper George Dorrington with a header and a low drive. However, once ‘The Greens’ had levelled in the 21st minute, with a low drive into the far corner by Anaclet Odhiambo, the signs were not good. George Dorrington never moved as the ball fizzed past him! 1-1.
Seven minutes later, Anaclet Odhiambo was on target again, when he tapped the ball home from close range. 1-2. The Mangos answer was to pump the ball forward to the hard-working Kane Simpson, but he was on his own, with no support, so his efforts came to nought. One looping cross-shot was just too wide of the far post, and a good break through the middle by Robert Hobbs, was spoilt as his final ball was too far ahead of Simpson.
Simpson had a chance from 6 yards, but his volley lacked force and was easily dealt with by Kidlington keeper Sam Warrell. In the 35th minute, the visitors had sealed the points. A clever three-man passing move ended with Duran Martin sweeping the ball home from 6 yards. 1-3.
Simpson’s last opportunity of the first half was a flashing volley across the face of the goal, which everyone missed.
Kidlington were well on top from the start of the second-half with their commanding lead and they increased this on the hour, when Ben Brown saw his header come back off the crossbar. He reacted before any Mangotsfield defender and planted a second header across the goal into the far corner. 1-4.
Mangotsfield had no answer to Kidlington’s clever play and in the 69th minute were even further adrift, again from Duran Martin, who jinked his way into the area, and even surrounded by several defenders, was able to evade a tackle and fire home into the far corner beyond Dorrington. 1-5.
The introduction of substitutes, Cameron Allen, Charlie Maddison & Jake Sinclair, did give the hosts some positivity, but the game was too late to save, and Kidlington were always looking as though they could score again.
Right at the death, Cameron Allen took the ball down the left, cut along the by-line and fired a rising drive beyond Sam Warrell, to give the scoreline a little more respectability.
These are very difficult times for the club as they struggle to stay away from the foot of the table.
