Mangotsfield United...1 Cirencester Town...1
Mangos share the points again!
Saturday 4th November 2017, The Evo-Stik League South – West Division. Attendance 127
Mangotsfield United….1 Cirencester Town….1
Still searching for that much-needed win, Mangotsfield’s first-half could not have been any worse, after going behind and then being reduced to ten men, but they changed things around and salvaged a point.
Cameron Allen had a great chance to give them an early lead but he screwed the ball wide from six yards, and then moments later was unable to reach an inswinging cross from Robert Hobbs.
However, it was Cirencester who opened the scoring after 18 minutes, when Tommy Anderson sent in an angled drive from the right side of the box. Keeper George Dorrington was able to parry, but the ball broke kindly to Aidan Bennett, who stabbed it home from close range. 0-1
Almost on the half-hour, Nick Peare, who had been very prominent and had just made a good block on Tommy Anderson as he looked set to score, was given a straight red for his tackle on Bennett. It did seem harsh but Bennett left the field with an injury.
It left ‘The Field’ looking at an uphill battle and with Cirencester’s Ben Whitehead, clipping the post and a flashing volley crashing against the crossbar, ‘The Field’ were up against it.
Manager Wayne Thorne brought on defender Ollie Price at the start of the second-half, and with the later introduction of Jordan Williams and Charlie Maddison, ‘The Field’ began to ease themselves back into the game, although ‘The Centurions’ were always threatening.
In the 79th minute, Maddison combined on the right with Jake Gardner, and slipped a ball inside across the face of the box to Kane Simpson, who slotted home the equaliser from eight yards. 1-1.
Both sides had late opportunities to have won the game. Henry Spalding and Anderson drew good saves from Dorrington, whilst at the other end, Mangotsfield’s ex-keeper Thom Jonkerman, always looked a safe pair of hands.
Despite needing the win, it was a good comeback for the ten men in sky and maroon.
