Mangotsfield United….0 Swindon Supermarine…3
With the new management of Wayne Thorne, David Seal & Lee Collier, observing, Mangotsfield slipped to a rather comprehensive defeat against a slick Supermarine side, and the defeat could have been heavier had it not been for the encouraging display of the new on-loan goalkeeper signing of Thom Jonkerman.
Twice, in the opening six minutes, the home defence was ripped apart by the clever Swindon interplay, with Aaron Woodley rifling in the opener after four minutes, following a superb reflex save by Jonkerman. It was tough on the keeper and Jake Elliott was cautioned for handling as he tried to prevent the goal. 0-1.
Lee Marshall then curled the ball home from 20 yards, with Jonkerman beaten on his left-hand side, and there was no doubt that ‘The Field’ faced an uphill battle to salvage the game. 0-2.
Mangotsfield worked hard, but lacked the cutting edge, and were never creative enough to trouble a side who will surely be challenging again. Steve Davies saw a low drive tipped around the post by keeper Josh Hill and Lewis Ellington turned well in the box, but his finish was wide.
Supermarine were always quick on the break, where Joe Selman caused problems on the right side and the tricky Josh Parsons was always in the thick of the action. Brad Hooper tested Jonkerman from distance and just before the break, Swindon put the game out of sight as a low drive from Connor Thompson found the far corner. 0-3.
Second-half changes saw Kyle Knott replace Josh Jones, & Nick Peare came on for Michael Bryant, before Lewis Hogg was red-carded for an alleged stamp in the 64th minute. Any chance of a Mangotsfield recovery, were obviously over at that point. Greg Andrews made his debut coming on for Lewis Ellington, and the rest of the game was basically damage-limitation for the hosts.
With the extra-man advantage, Supermarine controlled the rest of the game and came close to adding to their tally. A goalmouth scramble saw the ball hacked almost off the line, and Aaron Woodley set up Josh Parsons, but he scooped the ball over the top.
Josh Parsons saw his low effort tipped against the post by Jonkerman, and he then curled a 20 yard volley just marginally wide.
