Yate Town….1 Mangotsfield United….1
A rather surpising ‘gate’ of 413, saw honours even, and probably about right on reflection of play. Certainly a game of two halves! Mangotsfield’s only change from Saturday was Josh Jones making way for Kyle Knott. The visitors started well with Steve Davies, Tom Warren & Jordan Williams all prominent down the right flank, and it was Williams who headed wide with the first real opportunity.
However, it was Yate who almost made the breakthough after 12 minutes when a curling drive from Ben Brooks thumped against the upright with keeper Steve Phillips rooted to the spot. Brad Abraham was making his presence felt in midfield, as he threaded a low ball through the Mangotsfield defence, but Ed Weeks cut the pass off.
Mangotsfield took the lead after 19 minutes when keeper Harvey Rivers was able to parry a low drive from Jake Elliott, but Michael Bryant followed up and crashed home the rebound. 0-1.
Williams forced keeper Rivers into action with a strong 20 yard freek-kick, only for ‘The Bluebells’ to respond with a glancing near post header from Eugene Keary, which Phillips palmed away. A strong run by Davies down the right, which fed Liam Monelle, saw his cross just elude Lewis Ellington at the far post.
‘The Field’ were looking the most likely to find the net and a dipping volley from Davies was only marginally over the top. On two occasions, Monelle made progress down the right-hand side, only to see Davies head over the bar, and another deep cross pass the far post with no one able to get a touch.

At the start of the second-half, Davies set up Monelle and his low drive forced Rivers to save at full-stretch. Yate’s Keary then turned quickly in the box, and his snap drive was not too far away. Slowly, the home side were working their way back into the game, as ‘The Field’ seemed content to sit back and give them space.
Trey Anderson tried his luck from distance, being a little too high, and then just after the hour, the leveller came. Phillips had pushed away a goalbound effort, and no defender seemed to sense the danger as ex Mango Ben Brooks rifled the ball high into the net. 1-1.
For a while the game began to get a little flat as several substitutions came from both sides and with an enforced water break and a longish injury stoppage for Monelle, it seemed like both sides were settling for a point.
Going into the last ten minutes, a close-range header from Ellington was held by Rivers and a Williams free-kick was glanced over by Nick Peare, and although we went into an announced six minutes stoppage time, the referee seemed to finish the game early.
