Another win 'on the road'

Evo-Stik League, Division One South & West Tuesday 7th March 2017

North Leigh….2 Mangotsfield United….3 Att. 61 Eynsham Hall Park, North Leigh, Witney

Mangotsfield’s superb away record continued with this 3-2 victory at Eynsham Hall Park, and after a spell out through injury, it was good to see Dale Evans back in the starting line-up, with Lewis Hogg making way for him.

This was our 10th victory on the road, from fifteen games, and proved to be another League ‘double’ – our 6th of the campaign.

Recent results have not gone well for ‘The Millers’, especially following their recent 1-4 defeat at Ladysmead, Tiverton, so it was a big boost for us to take a 13th minute lead, as Andy Gunn was penalised for a tackle on Matt Groves. Lewis Powell took the resulting spot-kick. 0-1.
It was his 99th goal for the club.

Both sides had half-chances as the first period progressed. Malachi Napa went close with a shot which was just wide, just before the half-hour mark. On the stroke of half-time and the last kick of the half, we doubled our lead. A deep cross beyond the far post, was met by Liam Monelle, and his stunning volley from 10 yards gave keeper Manny Agboola little chance. 0-2.

North Leigh showed early promise after the break with Roger James making some promising runs down the left, and in the 50th minute he blasted wide, and later forced keeper Steve Phillips to save low at his near post.
In the 56th minute, from a corner, Mitch Tippins scored our third, putting us in a commanding position. 0-3. His goalbound volley cannoned off the post.

However. North Leigh made a late attempt to salvage something from the game, and came close. With six minutes left, Michael Hopkins reduced the arrears, and in the final minute, Roger James grabbed North Leigh’s second, to give them a respectable-looking scoreline. At the death, James Fawke had a half-chance, but his shot cleared the crossbar.
