After a goalkeeping error presented Sholing with a fourteenth minute lead scored by Lee Wort the hosts added a second when Marvin McLean's low cross from the left was diverted into his own net by Lee Marshall
Mangotsfield were offered hope of a second half fightback when Tom Knighton halved the deficit eight minutes into the second half. Despite going in search of a what would have been a deserved point Sholing held firm to take all three points.
The starting line up showed two changes to that which faced Chippenham Town in last Monday's FA Trophy replay.
Captain Geraint Bater returned after injury and loan signing Marcus Duharty
who due to the terms of his loan deal was unavailable for the FA Trophy tie was restored to lead the attack.
Making way were Karim Rendall and Alex Hoyle who were both named amongst the five substitutes which also included new loan signing Jake Mawford.
The hosts took the lead with their first notable attack, scoring on fourteen minutes after Danny Greaves
advanced to the right edge of the penalty area in an attempt to deal with a through ball but after losing the race the ball was played into the area for Lee Wort to guide the ball into the unguarded net from close range.
Mangotsfield went close to levelling midway through the half after Sean Seavill made ground down the left flank and delivered a cross towards the head of Mitchell Page only for Sholing goalkeeper Lee Webber to get his fingertips to the ball to deny Page.
Eleven minutes before half time Sholing's Marvin McClean broke down the left turning inside Neil Arndale
to send in a low shot across the face of the goal which when attempting to block the cross was diverted into his own goal by the unfortunate Lee Marshall
Mangotsfield made a bright start to the second half going close through Marcus Duharty
whose header from five yards was directed straight at Lee Webber.
Minutes later Harley Purnell's superb crossfield ball from just inside the Sholing half picked out the run of Tom Knighton who went past his man into the penalty to fire home from sixteen yards out for his tenth of the season.
A double substitution was made on sixty eight minutes, Jake Mawford and Karim Rendall replacing Harley Purnell and Tom Knighton as Mangotsfield stepped up their game with loan signing Mawford showing up well.
A third and final change was made with nine minutes left, Aysa Corrick coming on for Tom Parrinello
Despite having put Sholing under increasing pressure during the second half the hosts saw out the game to condemn Mangotsfield to a fifth straight league away defeat.
