Mangotsfield United Football Club are pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Thompson as First Team Manager. Thompson who will take up the reigns at Cossham Street on Monday was appointed after a series of interviews held earlier this week.

A former Mangotsfield United player Thompson brings with him a wealth of experience having spent nine years with Yate Town and more recently guided Almondsbury Town to the Hellenic Premier Division and promotion to the Southern League Division One South & West finishing sixth last season.

As a player he spent time as a professional with Newport County and Torquay United before carving out a successful non league career playing for Trowbridge Town, Salisbury City, Yate Town, Forest Green Rovers, Mangotsfield United, Taunton Town and Tiverton Town before moving into management with Yate Town in July 2000.

Mangotsfield United Chairman told MUFC Online “After narrowing down an impressive list of applicants to four and interviewing this week it was decided by the board that Richard was the ideal candidate to take the club forward at this time.

Richardson added “He has good experience at this level having managed for a number of years at both Yate Town and also Almondsbury Town and importantly he has a good knowledge of the local scene, is well respected and will bring with him a number of contacts which at this level is a major plus. Also as an ex Mangotsfield United player he is still a popular figure at the club.”
