The Mangotsfield United Supporters Club was formed in 2009 with its primary objectives being:
To assist with the continued success and prosperity of Mangotsfield United Football Club.
To encourage, promote and develop support, for MUFC and
To support MUFC by the raising of funds.
The committee consist of Roger Williams(Chairman),Shaun Lecrass (Treasurer), Tracy Lecrass, Tony Hannan, Terry Stevens, Dan Carter and Bob Jenkins.
The last name is significant as, being Vice Chairman of the club, his attendance at meetings has given us an insight into what’s happening at boardroom level, and on the playing side, although there are, of course, matters which cannot be discussed due to confidentiality. His presence has also helped to create a greater sense of transparency within the club.
What do we do? You probably know. Hang around in the bar and near the turnstile looking for anyone who looks like putting their hand in their pocket for money. Its called fund raising!
A few shiny pounds, here and there all add up. The Golden Goal tickets raise on average £60 per game x 20 home games = £1,200. Very nice.
Each month a draw is made for the 50 Club. Set up originally to be limited to 50 members, we did reach the dizzy heights of 41 a couple of seasons ago, but we’re down to 30 this year. Membership is £90 per season, most pay £10 per month and the prizes are £100,£50 and £25. NINE draws are held each season. Run primarily by Tracy Lecrass, our chief debt collector, its our biggest fund raiser pulling in approx. £2,500 each season.
So each year in theory we’re making about £3,500 profit. We need to keep funds back for prize money, to order merchandise for the Club Shop and to pay accounts for the match-day programmes which we’ve started to fund from the start of this season.
Over the last three years we’ve handed over in excess of £5,000 to go towards the refurbishment of the floodlights, ground maintenance, work on the dressing rooms and we’re awaiting a bill for replacement of damaged seats in the stand.
It’s the shiny pounds and slippery notes which may not seem much at the time, that make a difference, so many, many thanks.
The Club shop has been revamped and is being looked after by Ron Loftus. We now have a decent supply of polo shirts, hats, scarves and all manner of goodies, all of which, are ideal stocking-fillers for Christmas. Replica shirts come in on order from UHL Sport, via Gary Hillard Sports and if anything is needed please let me, Ron or any Committee member know.
Monthly meetings are held between us to monitor progress and consider potential new fund-raising ideas. Race Nights and Pig Racing are on the agenda. We used to run minibus trips to the shorter away games where the club didn’t run a coach but due to lack of support these have ,I would like to think temporarily, been stopped. We only need 12 for each trip and so if enough people start making noises we can consider getting them going again.
Hopefully this is a decent insight into our activities. Based on average home gates of around 120 this represents a pretty good return. Once the fortunes of the first team take an upturn and hopefully a promotion/play off challenge starts to materialise, the support will no doubt increase, income increases which gets ploughed back into the club and the upward spiral begins! Fingers crossed.
