Youth Team Edge Closer To Title

Mangotsfield United's Youth Team edged one step closer to retaining the SFYLPD title after beating Weston Super Mare 2-0 last night.

If Ashton & Backwell United fail to pick up maximum points this evening at Tiverton Town then Mangotsfield United will be crowned champions for a twelfth time.

Mangotsfield made a bright start with Aysa Corrick hitting the woodwork with a powerful drive, the woodwork coming to the aid of Weston on a further four occasions over the ninety minutes!

The opening goal came midway through the first half through a Louis Ross spot kick. After taking the lead Mangotsfield played some good football in patches but at times the tempo was allowed to drop.

For Mangotsfield the central defensive pairing of Omar Lindsay and Harry Greenland gave nothing away and looked in control throughout.

As in the first half, Mangotsfield made a good start to the second and after forcing Weston on the back foot racked up a number of corners.

The match was won on seventy minutes when Luke Palmer's forceful run was rounded off with a low drive to round off the Youth Team's 2011/12 campaign at Cossham Street.
